Ostrich skin or Ostrich hide? Boot makers are very particular about what you call the leather used to construct cowboy boots. Typically they refer to leather from animals that have a thinner hide as skin.

Snake, Shark, Eel, Lizard, and Ostrich are referred to as skin and leathers from animals such as Elephant, Alligator, Crocodile, Bison and Cows are classified as hides.

So the next time you call your local Bootmaker, be sure and use the right terminology. He or she will know you know what you are talking about and it might save you a little money.
